- Carvoeiro lies at the head of a long, pretty, verdant valley.
- It was first put on the map in the 1960's when it was discovered by the Irish
poet, Patrick Swift, who made much of the unspoiled coves and valleys in one
of the region's first guide books.
- There is a single entrance road which leads to a cove beach, around 100m
in width. Steep cliffs lined with picturesque painted houses hem it in on both
sides, whilst fishing boats ferry tourists to and from Algar Seco and other neighbouring
beaches, mainly accessible by boat.

Carvoeiro attractions:
- Algar Seco - literally meaning "dry gully" - just 1km east of Carvoeiro,
is an impressive array of rock formations, dramatic overhangs, sculpted rocks,
pillars and blowholes, chiselled by centuries of winds and waves.
- Praia de Vale de Centianes, a wonderful beach backed by cliffs. Praia do
Carvalho or Smuggler's Beach is another popular and picturesque spot.
- Praia da Marinha - the biggest and possibly the most beautiful of this stretch
of beaches.
- Lagoa is 5km away and is the centre of the Algarve's wine trade.
- For golf enthusiasts, the Pestana Golf resort with 2 courses, and the Vale
do Milho course are all within easy reach.
